Anals of Summer

Probably everyone's been wondering what I've been doing since school ended last week on June 15th. Well don't even worry about wondering anymore because I'm going to tell you right now:

So, basically, Shef and I have been spending tons of time together. I take him to his swim team or tennis, and after that we adhere to a schedule that I've devised and typed up for ease of review.

As you can see, the schedule includes a balance of exciting activities and rest time. Everything's been fun, except for yesterday when I fell off my bike in front of a large group of teenage girls and their camp counselor.

"MOM," Shef whispered, exasperated, "that was really embarrassing."

"I KNOW," I said, trying to play it off. "Geez, I don't know how that happened." (What happened was I was trying to move from the grass to a sidewalk and my front tire didn't quite make the jump.)

"I mean," Shef clarified, "it was really embarrassing for you."

So, that was unfortunate but typical, I think we can all agree.

Mac's been going to school, but for shorter hours. That's how we all stay sane and thriving on routine. He's been big into singing. I got a little video of him doing one of his greatest hits. I missed the first part of the song, which goes "Make new friends, but keep the mold."

That kid makes me never wanna get rid of the mold.

Yeah, writing out my minute-to-minute schedch for y camp tomorrow and after reading this great post, realizing i don't provide any time for rest. maybe this would help us make tomorrow a little less hellish.

if not, i will just watch that vid a ton of times when i get home.

Love the song and the schedule idea...seems like summer should be fun, restful, well organized and full of song! Mom

dailyros - do the counselors get to make their schedules? are you a boss at y camp now? wish you could right about the little guys and gals in your group.

mom - that's what we're going for! see you soon!

I am impressed with the summer schedule.

Thanks, mm! I feel like the summer schedule borders on anal, but it does keep us motivated and add structure to our day. Today and tomorrow the schedules off because Shef got invited to his grandparents' house. That trumps all!

Can Sam and I get on the schedule some day? "Lunch and rest and play with baby Sam," for example. Just an idea.

Also, what are you doing at St. Thomas?

KC said...

jdoc - YES. that would rock. Email me some days that are good.

At St. Thomas I'm teaching a class in the STEPS camp for girls. It's a science and technology class, and I'm teaching about multimedia fun stuff you can do online.

OMG, 20 Something Daughter asked me today, "Did you see Mac's video?" And I explained that I hadn't because I didn't have time what with the laying on the couch all day. She urged me to watch it asap because she said it was out of this world cute. So I just finally watched it and I LOVE IT! So sweet!

Love the schedule too. I used to write out lesson plans for the kids' birthday parties. Every minute mapped out. It really helped.

I am completely in awe of this. (Also reading it late.) I hope that you got the nap in that you tweeted about, because it could have fallen easily into the scheduled rest/quite time.

I did nap! Actually one of my mothers took Shef for a visit, so I was totally alone and off-book. ;)

The schedule is working super well, actually. I feel balanced and at ease. :)

I've been singing "I Have a Hand" nonstop around here. I like to use Mac's pronunciations too.
