SUGAR

This is monumental.

I can't even believe I'm saying this.

I'm giving up sweets.

I'm a sugar fiend. I love candy. I love dessert. I love cream and SUGAR in my coffee. But, I've reading a book about healthy diets, and the jury is in: sugar is really, really bad for you. It ages you prematurely, it prompts a damaging insulin response that leads to metabolic syndrome and diabetes. I'm not obese, but did you know you don't actually have to be obese to develop insulin resistance? Also sugar is addictive and mood altering.

I'm sure there will be caveats and set backs. Like, on my birthday, I'm definitely having frosting. That kind of thing. For now, I'm committing to a week of treat-free living.

We'll see where this leads.

Good idea. I guess. I mean, you seem extremely healthy, so it's hard for me to believe you're overdoing it in the health department. Still, health is good, and sugar's not, so kudos to you!

Shoot. I should probably scare myself into giving up sweets, too. I've eaten a donut every morning this week, and I've been crabby AND my face is breaking out like I'm a sixteen year old. I think this is all related, and your post seems like a good kick in the pants.

I'm going to try for a week. I honestly think that will be the hardest challenge I've ever given myself. Here goes.

"I would NEVER be able to do this!!!" says the girl who's reading blogs and eating caramel popcorn.

I just don't know if our friendship can survive this.
