Today, I had two good potential blog topics: this one, and also that my grandparents have met and conversed at length with Snoop Dog

As you can imagine, this cake, expertly designed and executed by Dan's mom, was a huge hit.

"It's Elmo! Elmo!" Shef squealed happily all the way until it came time to dish up, at which point his enthusiasm faded markedly.

"Daddy's cutting Elmo," he noticed skeptically, which was our cue to make a quick exit.

Did Sheffer have any trouble eating Elmo?

Eek, poor Shef seeing Elmo get cut! That's a bit disturbing. So, what about Snoop Dog?

I admire cake makers.
Awesome job, Dan's mom.

Sheffer would not eat Elmo. We really did have to leave the party before people started eating him.

So a few years ago my grandparents were invited to a fancy awards show because my uncle was going to be honored, and some Hollywood-types were in attendance. Both Samuel L. Jackson and Snoop introduced themselves, and I NEVER heard about this (something I would be totally interested in, obviously) probably because they had never heard of either of these huge celebrities.

That's the story.

I actually anticipated the potential for cannibalistic angst but thought Shef was too young. MY BAD. Hope he doesn't need therapy to work this out.

P.S. I will never do this again! Any future cakes that look like anything that he loves will be centerpieces only and we will eat a different cake!! I feel terrible!!! I do hope he has no lingering trauma!!!!

Oh no!!

I realize now I should have made it VERY clear that Elmo was eaten by Dan's dad in front of Shef, and he was okay with it. He himself chose not eat Elmo.

The reason we left (although I do think it was good to do before Elmo's head started getting cut) was that he was on the verge of a post-bedtime meltdown.

No lasting trauma!! Cake was a HUGE hit!! We've been looking at pics of the cake nonstop since the party! Edible friends are good friends!

xoxo to the cake artiste

I second the success of the cake. While I agree that had Shef witnessed any Elmo head-cutting things could have been bad, I know he really enjoyed the Elmo cake. As for this Snoop connection, it seems very similar to when my dad met Pamela Anderson, but didn't know who she was or even recognize that she was famous...
