I teach with new media every day, since I teach all blended classes and a class called Mass Media.
Today, we worked with Google forms to evaluate multimedia projects the kids made. Some of the kids had problems publishing their pieces, so here are some things I did:
- learned how to insert a page jump on blogger
- uploaded an iMovie to YouTube and embedded it on the Am Lit class blog
- embedded three VuVox collages on the Mass Media blog
- created a mixdown of an Aviary podcast and embedded it on the blog
- uploaded an MP3 file to my edublog as a podcast entry, and linked it to the class blog
And then for other purposes, I did a few more things:
- encouraged kids to use their smart phones to complete a recording assignment
- edited a Prezi to use in a grant presentation I'm helping with tomorrow. It's not my grant, but I still hope the guy who proposed it gets it.
- used Jing to grab screenshots of kids reflections on my class.
- recorded and uploaded quick YouTube webcam vids into that Prezi.
And a few other things. Basically, new media is my entire life these days. It's a good life, but seriously. It's a lot of media.

Also, tell me why I would use Jing for screen shots instead of merely using command/shift/4? Help oh wise tech savvy one.
Further to my comment on LH's blog just now....SEEEEEE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? This is totally unfair! I don't even understand 90 percent of the words you just used in that post. It's like the Far Side comic of the guy talking to his dog, where all the dog hears is: Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah BUSTER Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah BUSTER Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah BUSTER.
It works better in the comic strip, but you get the point.
I too was in the dark a bit. But thanks to you I do know about Prezi. Maybe I'll make a prezi for the challenge one day.
I'm really getting in to this challenge. Today I read on the NCTE inbox that kids who use Twitter have higher grades than kids who don't. Everyone should be forcing their kids to tweet.
MM, Jing is a screen video capture whereas CMD-Shift-4 (Mac) or Function-PrtScr (PC) simply takes a picture of the screen. With Jing you can record what your mouse is doing and record your voice as narration of what you're doing.
I like to use Jing for feedback to students on their media projects. I can just click on them and talk about what I like and what needs work and I can point to it with the pointer or highlighter.
Oh, and isnt' it funny that people say teachers who use technology are just taking it easy and letting the technology teach? That's about 15 times more of what a teacher who lectured had to do for class today.
Do your students know you are the coolest teacher EVAR???? I took "communications" in high school. It was in the "shop" building. There was one computer.
I didn't even use Jing the way Jim said - I use the little tool where you can just grab a little tiny BIT of the screen and save it as a png.
